Bitter is Better!

Spring season is upon us! The new growth of Spring symbolizes a transition from a cold and heavy Winter diet to a lighter and more energizing Spring.

Why not take a clue from the newly sprouting plants (most of which are Bitter in flavor) by utilizing 'Digestive Bitters' in your health regimen?

According to Dr. Christopher Hobbs, "bitters act on the entire digestive system to increase readiness for food, regulate appetite, and increase digestive efficiency by increasing digestive fire- stimulating the secretion of hydrochloric acid, pepsin, bile, and other important digestive enzymes."

Digestive Bitters can help with a myriad of problems such as:
-Poor fat and/or protein digestion
-Loss of zest for life, lowered vital energy
-Painful digestion, cramps, excessive gas, bloating
-Poor appetite
-Anemia
-Nutritional deficiencies causing immune-based disorders
-Overactive minds in people not getting enough exercise

Some important bitter herbs include:
-Andrographis herb (aka 'Chuan Xin Lian')
-Artichoke leaf
-Blessed Thistle leaf
-Cascara Sagrada bark
-Dandelion leaf & root
-Gentian root
-Lemon peel
-Mugwort herb
-Turmeric rhizome
-Wormwood herb

We often recommend Herb Pharm and Wishgarden Herb's Digestive Bitters. And yes, we do carry Digestive Bitters at Dragon's Den Herb Shop!

Stop in or give us a call at (808) 572-2424 if you're feeling that Digestive Bitters could be helpful for you!

6 Health Benefits of Green Tea

1. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, one of which is called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). This powerful antioxidant can help to prevent free radical damage.

2. Green tea contains caffeine along with L-theanine, which work synergistically for improved brain function without the anxiety and jitters that coffee can cause.

3. Green tea can help facilitate fat burning through thermogenesis and fat oxidation.

4. Green tea consumption has been studied for its benefits on insulin sensitivity.

5. Green tea is heart-healthy: EGCG may help to reduce cholesterol levels and reduce plaque build-up in arteries.

6. Green tea is high in polyphenols, which (along with EGCG) have shown positive effects on certain kinds of cancers such as prostate and breast cancer.
